The signing of a cooperation agreement for a blood bag manufacturing project

As part of the general state policy to support the drive towards manufacturing and the goal of localizing the pharmaceutical industry, as well as seeking to acquire the latest technologies used in this vital sector, in order to achieve a safe level of self-sufficiency in strategic goods and meet the needs of the local market and export requirements, a cooperation agreement has been signed for a blood bag manufacturing project.

A study is also being conducted to establish the first factory of its kind in Egypt to produce blood bags and anticoagulants, along with other supplies used in blood transfusion procedures for patients. The project will be carried out in collaboration with a Japanese company, aiming to transfer technology and localize the industry. It will be a partnership between the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals, the Unified Procurement Authority, and two private sector companies to meet local market needs.

The demand is estimated at approximately 2.5 million blood bags annually. The factory will focus on exporting to neighboring markets in Africa and Arab countries.

The pharmaceutical sector, under the ministry, has a comprehensive action plan to localize the pharmaceutical industry, particularly raw pharmaceutical materials, to meet the needs of local production and for export abroad. The importance of integration between the public and private sectors to advance the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt is emphasized, as well as deepening local manufacturing, particularly given the modern technology and accumulated management expertise of the local and foreign private sectors. Additionally, the diverse assets owned by the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals can be exploited to increase their economic returns through joint cooperation to serve the national economy, reduce imports, and secure the needs of the local market.
